50 performance-oriented units of Volvo S60 & V60 Polestar rolled out into the Middle East to deliver an optimal drivability
Dubai – UAE, July 27, 2015 – Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, along with its integral performance brand partner Polestar announced the arrival of the most anticipated performance-oriented Volvo S60 Polestar sedan and Volvo V60 Polestar wagon to the Middle East as part of its expansion plan developed for the third generation.
S60 and V60 Polestar cars are the result of nearly two decades of racing experience and know-how from exploring the limits of Volvo cars, combining everyday performance, safety, full optimum control among many other new features all in just one package. The 2016 performance duo models were rolled out this year for the first time in the Middle East with 50 units allocated to Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
“We are delighted to introduce a special experience to the passionate drivers in our region whose appetite for stunning cars is vociferous. The Volvo S60 & V60 Polestar models are developed to create what we call optimal drivability”, said Emre Karaer, General Manager of Volvo Car Group Middle East & North Africa. “Including the Middle East in the expansion plan of the third generation of Polestar cars marks an important milestone for Volvo MENA. These models are designed to deliver an engaging, precise and confident driving experience in all weathers, on all roads and in all seasons carrying Polestar’s engineering philosophy,” added Emre Karaer.
As Volvo, Polestar maintains the same level of safety technologies dedicated to its high-end racing engineering that ensures optimized control, stopping power, and responsiveness making both models the safest road cars to be driven in the world.
Reflecting the increased performance of the S60 and V60 Polestar, positive aerodynamic effects have been achieved through subtle, yet efficient, modifications based on data from tests in the Volvo Cars wind tunnel. The interiors of the cars have been reworked with new details, materials and Polestar colours with the sole purpose of increasing driver support and control.
The six-cylinder 3.0 litre turbo-charged T6 engine has also undergone extensive development with a new twin-scroll turbo and intercooler to produce 350 HP at 5700 rpm and 500 Nm already at 3000 rpm.
The automatic gearbox of six-speed transmission features a new paddle shift system that together with the Polestar developed Haldex four-wheel drive system takes the car from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and to a limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The gearbox along with the 4WD system and traction control system has been recalibrated in order to provide an active driving experience and maximum grip in all situations.
Upgrades also include modifications made to increase rigidity of the chassis to cater for the 80% stiffer springs relative to the standard S60 R-Design. These changes combined with the tailored high performance Öhlins shock absorbers and 20” Polestar wheels results in a precise, yet comfortable, driving experience.
It is worth to mention that Volvo Cars has recently acquired 100 per cent of Polestar, including the Polestar brand. Polestar will now be used as the model name for special high performance Volvos. In 2015, Volvo expects to sell 750 Polestar versions of the V60 wagon and S60 sedan globally.
Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar are now available in the GCC with a starting price of USD 62,000 and in the UAE at Al Futtaim Trading Enterprises starting with AED 229, 900. Both sedan and wagon are available in four colours – blue, white, black and silver.
